STRATTON-ON-THE-FOSSE

Built by the Romans

Fosse Way is an ancient road

Stratton straddles it

Just for good measureFosse Way ran almost straight (the shortest distance between two points) from Lincoln in Lincolnshire Lindum Colonia to Exeter in Devon  Isca Dummoniorum

For further good measure: A Colonia was a city (one of four only in Britain) where retired legionares could remain if they wished, instead of returning to their homeland.
