On discharge from the Transition Care Unit, I was assigned home visits by a physical and occupational therapists. When they felt I was able to manage things by myself, they gave me the go ahead to resume my activities at my local community center. There, I am able to walk an indoor track as part of a program for senior citizens which they call Silver Sneakers. So I go there on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I try to arrive by about 7:15 a.m. I walk until 8:15 and then take a break for 15 minutes. I resume walking at about 8:30 and walk until 9:15. Then I make my way to a large gymnasium where I join a group of about 40 other seniors to participate in an instructor- guided Chair Yoga class for 1 hour.
This moderate exercise has done wonders for me. And while it can be a little tiring, I find it quite exhilarating. If it’s something you have never done before, it might worth considering.
